Suzali London: Launch Event

Suzali London is one of the unique brands out now in the UK, who vows to offer affordable designer desi fashion without compromising on trendy style. Last weekend brought their first event at the sophisticated The Arch London in Marble Arch, which I just could not miss!

Suzali London describes themselves as “a buyer who carefully selects items from Pakistani designers to create a stunning and trendy capsule collection suitable for the London fashionistas. We have an exclusive London distribution agreement with many of their designers, so you will not be able to find them elsewhere in London. We keep an eye on the evolving trends in Pakistan and make sure they offer what is newest and hottest on the market”. They offer a range of proficient talented designers from Pakistan, with established designers such as Mehreen Noorani, Nida Azwer and Shirin Hassan, whilst introducing new designers to the UK Sarah Anees, Naureen Arbab and Lalarukh.

Mehreen Noorani is a Dubai based fashion designer whose label sells in Dubai, India, Hong Kong, Karachi and New York. Having graduated from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Mehreen Noorani’s label focuses on innovative, yet elegant takes on classics. I love her use of detailed embroidery on sheer light fabrics. My particular favourite was the black and white embroidered vintage style cape below.

Naureen Arbab established since 2008, her range offers a line of clothing in unique designs that boast elegant, traditional cuts merged with contemporary styles bringing and harmonising two worlds together. Naureen’s use of colourful splashes of symmetrical patterns oozes the essence of Summer, perfect to wear this season.

Sarah Anees is a fashion graduate from Pakistan and offers couture and prêt wear, which was founded in 2014. The classic chicness with a modern vibe, focus on clean cut silhouettes and attention to intricate detailing defines the label. Sana Habib, the founder of Suzali London wore one of her pieces to the launch event and looked stunning! Her collection was a sequin haven! A sensible choice for a glamorous evening affair.

Nida Azwer has been designing and working in fashion under the her eponymous label since 2005, only one month after she graduated from the prestigious Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture. Her label includes a prêt a porter, haute couture and bridal lines. Nida Azwer’s attire spoke of bold patterns using a palette of mixed colours and light fabrics; a perfect pick for a summer holiday wear.

In 2008, Shirin Hassan launched her brand in India, Dubai and the US, which shared the core traits of her hallmark brilliance in “Block Prints”. Not only does she have presence in Pakistan, but she has also showcased her collections on international platforms. The sophisticated mixture of different block prints and use of exquisite feminine colours really caught my eye.

Lalarukh is a boutique that provides semi-formal, bridal and wedding wear and has done for nearly two decades. Traditional handwork techniques, rich fabrics and the choicest cuts have come to define the label, that promises beautifully constructed couture pieces with a touch of contemporary flair.

Sana Habib, the founder behind Suzali London, shared a few words on her brand’s first launch event: “I am so pleased that the launch event was such a huge success, not only did we have an amazing turn-out but also excellent sales, and phenomenal post-event orders. But what has pleased me the most has been the wonderful feedback we have received from new clients who I look forward to developing strong long term relationships with. Most people commented about the variety of styles and price points the business model has touched, and this is exactly what I wanted Suzali London to encompass: elegance, versatility and accessibility.”

It was refreshing to see interesting cuts and embellishments used by Naureen Arbab, vibrant colours and patterns offered by Nida Azwer and Mehreen Noorani, traditional attire moving away from conventional colours by LalaRukh and chic-glamour pieces offered by Sarah Anees. There was something there for everyone and best of all at reasonable prices. I look forward to seeing Suzali London’s events in the near future, which I am sure will be appreciated by the masses. I wish them the best of luck in their upcoming events and beyond.
